Southfields

Set on a corner plot in Wandsworth, this former dairy has been reimagined as a calm, light-filled home. The transformation focused on creating a sense of sanctuary in the city: where timber, light, and texture work together to form a warm, inviting interior that feels effortless yet deeply crafted.

  • The back half of the house was rebuilt to open the plan and improve flow between kitchen, dining, and garden spaces. Full-height glazing, rooflights, and a picture window bring daylight deep into the plan, turning what was once dark and disconnected into a serene family hub.

A rebuilt closet wing in Petersen brick grounds the design in its Victorian context, while a fully timber-clad infill extension adds contrast – a low-carbon structure that feels contemporary but natural beside the original brickwork.

The corner condition gave the opportunity for a distinctive façade to the side street. A rhythmic pattern of timber and glazing balances privacy with openness, filtering light into the home while maintaining a sense of enclosure. From the outside, the palette of pale brick, light timber, and soft detailing sits quietly within its residential context, yet adds a touch of crafted individuality to the street.

Sustainability shaped every decision, from the choice of low-carbon materials and green roofs that support biodiversity, to the layout’s reliance on daylight to minimise energy use. Built to exceed Part L requirements, the design reflects our belief that sustainability should feel simple, natural, and beautiful in everyday life.

Every detail – from the exposed timber rafters to the delicate joinery – is designed for longevity and joy. The result is a home that feels both refined and restorative: a quietly confident piece of architecture that celebrates craftsmanship, light, and care for the planet.
