Morden Moments - LFA Competition
shortlisted public realm scheme
Our proposal, Platform Zero, reimagined Station Yard as a playful, community driven cultural hub.
The design set out a new urban strategy that connected the space to the wider Morden Pleasure Line, a green walking route linking parks, cultural venues and neighbourhood centres.
Central to the proposal, the Urban Carriage concept transformed the familiar geometry of the Northern Line into multifunctional street furniture combining seating, planting and storage for community gardening. A large community designed mural created a vibrant backdrop for performances and local events, while sustainable planting and rewilding were developed in collaboration with Sustainable Merton and Friends of Kendor Gardens.
In September 2025, we were shortlisted for the LFA Morden Moments competition, delivered by New London Architecture (NLA) in partnership with Merton Council.
Although we were not selected as the final winning team, being shortlisted in such a competitive and high profile brief is something we are incredibly proud of, and a meaningful recognition of our vision for Morden’s evolving public realm.
The project was grounded in extensive engagement with local groups, schools, youth networks, businesses, TfL and residents, ensuring the design responded directly to community needs.
A legacy plan built around playful digital and physical “transport tokens” further extended the project’s potential to inspire exploration, creativity and civic pride across the Pleasure Line.
We’re proud of the work, the collaboration and the vision behind Platform Zero — and of having it recognised within the shortlist for such a significant competition.
