Then we were tasked with replanning the lower ground floor with its connection to the garden beyond. Our clients also wanted us to reinstate the property’s earlier period features. And they were in a hurry, which added an extra challenge into the mix!

We teamed up with Turley heritage consultants to secure successful first-time planning and listed building approval from the local authority. This avoided any complex conditions attached to the planning applications, which could have otherwise delayed the programme.

Many of our interventions in this St John’s Wood Townhouse restoration were subtle and unobtrusive. We remodelled the property’s period features using contemporary restoration methods, providing the best of old and new. The reconfigured rooms feature reinstated plasterwork, fireplaces and bespoke shelving. Thoughtful period and mid-century furniture and lighting choices complement the warm, mid-century interiors.

From the upper ground floor hallway, deep gold walls add striking simplicity to the fully restored staircase. In the master bedroom and adjoining suite, brass fittings and verdigris ceramic tiling complement the deep bottle green of the walls.

On the reconfigured lower ground floor, the Roundhouse kitchen sits unobtrusively within the space, designed for modern cooking, eating and dining. The whole floor draws in warm light from French doors that open directly onto the garden. A brand new redesigned staircase complements the lower-ground floor and rises to meet the main hallway.

Our contractor Pask conducted the sensitive top-to-bottom refurbishment and reconfiguration of this period property.⁠ This was no easy task: work on site began during the COVID-19 pandemic! And despite three lockdowns, the project was completed safely and on time in just 8 months.
